The Royal Thai Embassy, in collaboration with the Thai Community in New Zealand, is proud to present the “Thai Festival: Sawasdee New Zealand, 70 Years of Friendship” on Saturday, 16 May 2026, at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington. This milestone event commemorates the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and New Zealand, celebrating decades of friendship, cultural exchange, and mutual cooperation between the two nations.

The festival aims to offer a slice of Thailand in New Zealand's capital, promising a vibrant and immersive cultural experience for all ages. Attendees will enjoy a diverse programme of activities and attractions, including traditional Thai cultural performances, authentic Thai cuisine, and live demonstrations of fruit and vegetable carving. Visitors can also participate in a Muay Thai class, meditation workshop, and experience traditional Thai massage. In addition, there will be showcases of Thailand’s rich intangible cultural heritage, and special exhibitions honouring the Thai monarchy, including displays of royal-endorsed traditional Thai attire.

The Royal Thai Embassy warmly invites members of the public, families, and visitors from across New Zealand to join in this special celebration and experience the rich traditions and warm hospitality of Thailand.
